Admissions policy

Before you apply, please take a look at our entry requirements to check that your child meets them

Here are the ages at entry.

We find that children thrive in their correct class age groups. Our differentiated teaching accommodates students who need support and stretches the more able. We always keep children in their correct age band except when:

  • The child’s birthday falls within a month either side of 1st September (for children joining Reception or above).

  • A student in Yr10 or above is not fluent enough in English to complete the GCSE or IB programme.

In these situations, we’ll discus the matter with you before making a decision. Please note that we’re isolated from support services normally available in the UK so we’ll advise you against placing your child with us if we don’t feel able to provide for special emotional, social, academic, physical or behavioural needs.

Entry requirements

Nursery – Year 6

  • We admit children who don’t speak English up to Year 2. Those entering Year 3 need a basic level of proficiency.

  • Class sizes are 15 students in Nursery, 20 in Reception and 22 from Year 1 to Year 6. There are waiting lists after this.

Years 7 – 9

  • We’ll assess the ability of all students in English, Maths and Hungarian (where relevant) but there’s no specific academic standard for entry.

  • Reasonable proficiency in English is required.

  • Class size is limited to 20 pupils. There’s a waiting list after this.

Years 10 – 13 (GCSE and IB)

  • Students need to be proficient in English.

  • We’ll assess all students and will need evidence that they’ll be able to complete these demanding programmes.

  • We’ll need to discus whether we offer the appropriate subject choices.

  • Our GCSE classes are limited to 20 pupils, our IB subject groups to 15. Waiting lists operate after this.

Class organisation

Where there are two or three classes in a year group, we try to organise the classes so that they are balanced in terms of language experience, nationalities, abilities and gender. If we feel the students will benefit, we may reorganise them at the start of the academic year. We’ll let you know our decision on class groups and teachers in mid-August. Please note that the Principal’s decision is final.
