How to applyWe welcome children of all nationalities, races and creeds at The British International School Budapest. Please get in touch – we’ll be only too glad to meet you. We've put together a breakdown of our admissions process below to make life easier for you.
Step 1: Contact Us When you begin your school search, we will be very happy to offer information over the phone or via email so please get in touch to the contacts listed below. We accept admissions throughout the year so it is not necessary to wait until September to start school. We are also open all year around Monday to Friday from 0800 until 1630 including the school holidays except Hungarian national holidays. Step 2: Make an appointment Here at BISB we like to meet all prospective families personally. The best thing to do is to contact our Admissions Officer to make an appointment. We’ll show you and your child around the school and introduce you to the Principal and potential Class Teachers and Tutors at a time which is most convenient for you. In addition to any questions you may have, we will talk to you about what we feel makes our school special, offer advice about the best class placement for your child/ren as well as factors to take into consideration with regard to the transition. You’ll also get chance to have a look around our purpose-built facilities and talk to some of the students. If it’s not yet possible for you to visit us at this stage, we are happy to give you information via mail, fax, e-mail or phone and meet you another time once you have arrived to Budapest. Step 3: Reserve a place Once you have chosen BISB, you are a few short steps away from formalizing a place with us. In the first instance we ask only for the completion of our application form and submission of our standard registration fee (180000 HUF). Shortly before your child starts with us, we also require families to submit the following documentation:
Step 4: Assessment and Trial Day For primary students, we might ask them to carry out English proficiency tests and a simple academic assessment test, however these are not needed in every instance. In addition to assessment tests, secondary students will be asked to discuss subject choices with the Principal and subject teachers. This is especially important for those students entering GCSE and IB level year groups. In some cases we also feel it might be a good idea to invite your child to spend one day at the school to experience school life and meet future peers and teaching staff. The trial day equally provides teachers with a great opportunity to informally assess a child’s level to assist in class placements. Step 5: Preparing to start school Once a student has taken the assessment tests and we have received all documentation and invoiced the registration fee, we are ready to confirm a start date. However, even after this you may still find that you have more questions to ask. Please feel free to get in touch whenever a question crops up. Step 6: Starting school Starting a new school can be a daunting experience for pupils as well as parents. Once at the school, our entire community is involved in welcoming new families in a variety of ways some of which are mentioned here:
Finally we hope that your transition to Budapest and BISB will be a smooth one.
