Rewarding success

We look to celebrate success, and our teachers are always on the look out to ‘catch children doing things well’. We like informal praise, but we have formal systems for rewarding students, too.

In Primary HOUSE POINTS are awarded to students for academic achievement, sports and good behaviour. These allow us to praise children quickly for things they’ve done well. Each week every class teacher in primary selects a student to receive the STAR OF THE WEEK certificate. This might be for consistent good work, for excellent behaviour, for outstanding effort or acts of kindness at school. Star of the Week certificates are presented to children and displayed in each classroom. Every break time a class in each year group is awarded a gold star for being the best at lining up and returning to their classroom following the break time.

We also give out Marble awards for being polite, helping others and taking part in team activities. Each classroom collects its students Marble totals, and after set targets are reached, the students are rewarded with a special meal, or an extra 15 minutes of breaktime.

In secondary our students are rewarded with for academic attainment or accomplishments in other areas of school life by receiving MERITS. Each term the number of merits are totalled and students with 25, 50, 75 or 100 merits receive a bronze, silver, gold or platinum certificates respectively.

In primary and secondary we celebrate children’s outstanding achievements, both inside and outside the school curriculum, by inviting them to receive a PRINCIPAL’S COMMENDATION. This is a special occasion which gives children an opportunity to share and discuss their achievements with the Principal and receive personal congratulations and a special certificate.

Achievements large and small are recognised at every level and in every stage of student's life at our school, encouraging students to perform to the best of their ability.
