Curriculum

Our students study the English National Curriculum, supported with differentiated teaching to ensure every student is supported and challenged to be the best they can be.

At the British International School, Abu Dhabi, we follow the English National Curriculum. This curriculum seeks to:

  • set out the most important knowledge and skills that every child has a right to learn

  • be a flexible framework enabling children to be taught in a way that is balanced and manageable but stretching enough to challenge them and meet their diverse needs

  • give standards that measure how well children are doing to support teachers in further raising student achievement.

We adapt the curriculum to make sure it’s suitable for our diverse group of students. As they go through the school, we keep a careful eye on how they’re doing with progressive and continuous assessment and review.

We intend for our senior students to follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme from 2013 onwards.*

IB aims to:

  • develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect

  • encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

We think it’s important to educate the whole child; Personal, Social and Health Education is part of this. PSHE is taught at all Key Stages, equipping students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to take responsibility for themselves, show respect for others and develop self-awareness and confidence.

Our class teachers are supported by our Student Support Services department, to identify students who need a little extra support or those students who need extra challenge. All of our have experience of delivering both curriculums and they go through additional training with Nord Anglia University.
